A timestamp, explained

This page shows how a fingerprint of a set of files is tied to a Bitcoin block. The set is a reference made to fix a receipt format: three short stand-in files, not photographs and not someone's home.

Nothing is pasted. The site's server reads one Bitcoin block, the earliest one named in a proof file kept for this page.

How this works

The proof is an OpenTimestamps proof. It starts from the SHA-256 of a short record, the tree head, and joins that fingerprint with other data until it arrives at a value OpenTimestamps describes as the merkle root of a Bitcoin block.

Existamp, a separate app, makes this kind of receipt. This page is not that app, and it does not timestamp anything of yours.

Information, not advice. A clean result does not make anything a good investment.
