Staying safe

Five moments, each on its own page. None of them is a finding that a person, a coin or a firm is safe, and none of it is advice.

Each guide ends with where to report or ask. Tax goes to HM Revenue & Customs. The other four go to the FCA.

Information, not advice. A clean result does not make anything a good investment.

The five guides

One search, a fee in order to withdraw, was not the wording of any page that was opened. The fee guide says what those pages did say.

  • Someone offered to grow my money. Early participants may be paid from later money. People who join later usually lose it. Read the guide.
  • Asked to pay a fee to withdraw. That phrase was not on the pages. The closest accounts are an upfront fee, and a later offer to buy the holding back. Read the guide.
  • Recovery. An offer to get money back, for a fee paid first. Read the guide.
  • If the exchange goes bust. The ombudsman and the compensation scheme if a firm stops, and one lender that went bankrupt in 2022. Read the guide.
  • Tax. Tax when you sell cryptoassets, and when you receive them. Read the guide.
